“TRUSTING GOD’S WILL”

BY

DR ED YOUNG

"Behold, as for the proud one, His soul is not right within him; but the righteous will live by his faith.” - Habakkuk 2:4
The person trusting God knows three things about God’s will. First, God has a plan for his or her life. Second, the individual in covenant with God understands that God is revealing His will, piece by piece, in God’s own timing. Third, covenant people trust God to bring the whole into being. Faith is resting one’s destiny on the Lord. Covenant people live in the balance between passivity and impulsiveness. They wait on the Lord to reveal each step, but they move forward with action, trusting that God is bringing them to His complete purpose for their lives

A Direct Flight to Heaven”

By GREG LAURIE

“But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the dead—haven’t you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead.” —Matthew 22:31–32

When I book a flight, I always try to avoid stopovers. The reason being is that you can get stuck in airports, especially in a place that has weather fronts that move in. All of a sudden, a little transfer to the next plane is changed, and you are there for hours—sometimes overnight. So I always try to get a direct flight.

When a Christian dies, it is a direct flight to heaven; there are no stopovers. The moment we take our last breath on Earth, we take our first breath in heaven. We go into the presence of God.

Remember that Jesus said to the thief on the cross, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). When the apostle Paul spoke of departing and being with Christ, he didn’t say, “I am going to depart and then go into soul sleep.” Rather, he said, “I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live” (Philippians 1:23–24).

So when we get to heaven, will we have the same bodies? The answer is not exactly. Our resurrection bodies will not be our earthly bodies merely resuscitated, but will be the likeness of the earthly body glorified. God will recover from the dust a body with a definite relationship to one’s earthly body, but transformed to suit our new environment.

We are told in 1 Corinthians 15:53: “For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.” There is a bodily resurrection. The very essence of the word “resurrection” speaks of the body. So our bodies will be raised.

Summary sentence: For the Christian, heaven is a direct flight with no stopovers!

Fully Trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ”

BY

ADRIAN ROGERS

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6

John G. Patton was a Bible translator in the South Sea Islands. While translating, he came to the word “believe” and searched for a word that the native people could truly understand. He wanted something that meant commitment and trust, but he couldn’t think of a word. Then one day, a messenger rushed into Mr. Patton’s room out of breath. Needing to rest, he flung himself into a big chair and leaned back in complete relaxation. Patton asked the native for a word to describe what he did when he sat down and completely trusted in the chair to hold him so he could relax. That’s the word he used for “believe.”

When a person quits trying and begins to trust the Lord Jesus, that’s “belief.”

Who have you been sharing Christ with that hasn’t yet been saved? Ask God to give you a word that will break through the barriers and bring salvation to this person.

Pointing Beyond”

BY

PASTOR BOB COY

“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” —Matthew 10:28 (NKJV)

Throughout His ministry, Jesus made it a point to point people beyond this world. He was constantly sounding an alarm about the eternal realities they needed to be ready for: that earth wasn’t “it,” that there was a Heaven and a Hell, and that their current life was best spent preparing for the next one.

For example, on the point of fearing man, Jesus taught that we shouldn’t be afraid of those who can only punish in this life, but instead we should fear God, who can punish us in eternity.

What’s He saying here? He isn’t just telling His audience to be afraid of God. He’s telling them to recognize the fact that eternal reality should take priority over the earthly reality.

How foolish it would be to live your temporal life in a way that only sets you up to suffer eternal consequences. No one wants to sign up for that. But the reality is that the daily grind of life on earth can dull people’s sensitivity to eternity. So Jesus reminds them to look past man and to look to God. If you’re going to fear someone, fear Him!

His warning to them is His warning to us, as well. We’re also in danger of making the same mistake they made…the mistake of not having an eternal perspective on our existence. When that happens, our judgments, convictions, and actions become based on the short-term.

Wisdom dictates that we base these things in view of eternity. So, receive Christ’s warning, and recognize that this life is best spent preparing for the next one.

For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. James 4:14 (NKJV)

“A DAILY WORD”

BY

DR ED YOUNG

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. - 2 Peter 3:9

Often we try to trap God in our time schemes. We lay out plans and schedules, and expect Him to conform. God sent His Son into the world as quickly as the world was prepared to receive Him. When the Father saw that the sacrificial system with its types and shadows had been established, and that the prophetic word pointing to the Messiah had been heard, the world was in readiness for the Messiah, and at the precise moment in accord with His plan, sent Him to us—in “the fullness of time” (Galatians 4:4).

“Wisdom for the Trials of Life”

BY

DR CHARLES F STANLEY

At first glance, today's passage on wisdom doesn't seem related to the subject of trials, but James is actually continuing His thoughts from the previous three verses. We need wisdom to know how to respond to suffering. This means we should see trials from the Lord's viewpoint and understand His purposes in allowing them in our lives.

If you want to profit from struggles, be sustained in them, and come through with joy and victory, you must be persuaded of the following truths:

1. God is in full control of the timing and intensity of your trial and will not allow it to go beyond His boundaries.

2. He has a specific purpose for your suffering which you may not understand until it is over.

3. This trial will prove to be profitable if you submit to God and trust Him through it.

4. Trying situations are opportunities for faith to prove genuine and grow stronger.

5. When you endure extreme pressure with unexplainable peace and joy, the Lord will demonstrate His sustaining power to a watching world.

6. Your difficulties are used by the Father to produce Christ-like character.

7. God will walk with you through all trials.

8. The Holy Spirit will enable you not only to survive but also to come out a conqueror.

If you believe all these principles, they will shape how you respond to difficulties in your life. This perspective eliminates the negative reactions normally elicited by trials and makes supernatural responses possible. Instead of feeling miserable and hopeless, you'll experience amazing peace and joy.

“How to give up doing anything on your own”

By

Pete

briscoe

“There are three ways to get something done: do it yourself, hire someone, or forbid your kids to do it.” —Unknown

When Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing,” He clearly didn't mean that we can't do anything. Obviously there are things we can do. We can drive a car, we can go to work, we can pay our mortgage-- we can do things. What He is saying is, “If you’re going to do something of eternal significance—if you want to make a difference in people’s lives, if you want to bear real spiritual fruit that matters eternally—apart from Me you can’t do any of that. You cannot create true fruit in the power of the flesh.”

If we choose not to remain in His love, if we choose not to abide in Him, not to allow His power to work through us, we’re just like a branch that’s not even connected. There’s no difference. Why would we even want to live that way? (Well, pride for starters, but let’s just pretend that was a rhetorical question.)

The point is this. We were designed to “remain” in Christ and in His love for us, dependent on Him to live His life through us.

“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

What happens when we bear fruit? Two things:

1.   We show ourselves to be disciples. The true fruit of the Spirit makes it obvious that we really are disciples—because only He can bear this kind of fruit. If it’s borne, then it’s obvious He did it through us, and we’re disciples.

2.   The Father gets the glory. And there is something that is just so right about that. It’s like everything falls into its proper place when people look past us and praise God from whom anything good flows.

Jesus, I know there are a whole lot of things that I can do outside of You. But I can’t do anything that's going to matter in eternity unless I rest in You. So Lord and Life, I surrender it all to You right now. I want everything to bring glory to You. So I’m giving up doing anything on my own. Teach me to become more and more dependent on You. Thanks!

“The Message of Salvation by Jesus”

BY

DR JOHN BARNETT

Have you ever wished you could sit in the back of the crowd and listen to the greatest man who ever lived, Jesus Christ, and hear what He said to the lost and seeking crowds? Have you ever wondered how Jesus led someone to salvation? We have the records of Nicodemus, the woman at the well, the man at Bethesda, Zacchaeus, and so on. But, the actual method, words, gospel presentation and so on would be fascinating wouldn't it?

Today we are going to do just that. We are going to hear the soul winning methods of Jesus. How? Through the eyes and ears of those who spent time alone with Jesus and through the hearts and minds of those who heard Him soul winning for 3 plus years. Thus the Book of Acts is the most critical source in the universe for our views of evangelism. Acts records the first 30 years of evangelism from the lens of inspiration, on the film of God's Word! Through the inspired words of the Gospels and Acts when we listen to the Message of Jesus captured by the Apostles of Jesus.

If Jesus saved us to share the Gospel, the Good News of Salvation, then there are few things more exciting than to actually learn from Him our Master, His message and the way He called men and women, boys and girls to Salvation.

Now turn to the launching pad. It is found in the book of the Acts of the Holy Spirit. That is the sequel to Luke. Luke wrote as the Holy Spirit inspired Him what happened (that is the content of the Gospels) and then he wrote how they shared what happened (that is the book of Acts) and then in the Epistles we have why all this had to happen. That in brief is a summary of the entire New Testament.

So Acts is a video report of how the Apostles and disciples shared the Gospel message in every possible setting. What we get is to see how the eyewitnesses shared with the world what happened in the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As we go through all 28 chapters we find that there are 22-recorded events where a Gospel Message is presented.

The first Gospel Presentation is in Acts 2. The time has come, after being called to be a fisherman for eternal souls. After being given on site, hands on training for three plus years. After being tutored privately, commissioned publicly, and filled with the very Holy Spirit of God, Peter steps up to the microphone to deliver his first sermon. I'm sure his pulse was throbbing in anticipation, his heart pounding with excitement to at last say what he had been taught, shown, and commanded him, to say. So here it is, here is Gospel Presentation number one in Acts chapter 2. Peter preaches the first sermon after Christ's death, burial, resurrection, and sending the Holy Spirit down to indwell the Church. What does he say?

n FacebookRecommend this article to your frien"Servanthood Starts in the Mind”

by

Charles R. Swindoll

Wouldn't you love to live courageously in spite of the odds? Doesn't it sound exciting to be divinely powerful in day-to-day living? Aren't you eager to become independently authentic in a day of copycat styles and horrendous peer pressure? Of course!

It all begins in the mind. Let me repeat it one more time: thinking right always precedes acting right. I cannot overemphasize the importance of the renewed mind.

It is really impossible to grasp the concept of serving others—or to carry it outwith joy and without fear—until our minds are freed from the world's mold and transformed by the Lord's power.

I feel the need to add a warning to my urging. A warning against anyone who might "use" others to accomplish his or her purposes. Be very careful not to do that! How easy it is to encourage servanthood so others might serve us.

That is not the way our Master walked and neither should we.

Servanthood starts in the mind. With a simple prayer of three words: "Change me, Lord."

Living with Passion“

BY BAYLESS CONLEY

I want to focus your attention today on two passages. The first is Ecclesiastes 9:10,

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

The second passage is Colossians 3:23,

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.

Do you see the common theme? God desires us to live our lives full out, with passion. Whether you are a preacher, a writer, a teacher, or a singer, whatever you do, you are to do it with passion. You are to throw yourself into it.

People are attracted to passion. They want to see someone who is burning with a fiery zeal for whatever they do!

In my opinion, the greatest example of a passionate person is Jesus. Remember the story when Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple? That was a passionate act. In fact, the end of that passage says, "Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up."

Zeal is just another word for passion. "Passion for Your house has eaten Me up!" Have you ever tried to imagine Jesus doing that? I have a very clear image of what that must have been like.

He is whipping these guys and they are running, covering their heads. He is throwing over these big tables and the disciples are watching with their mouths wide open, when they remember the verse, "Zeal (passion) for Your house has eaten Me up."

Let me ask you a question: When is the last time you were eaten up with zeal for anything? When is the last time you were utterly passionate about anything?

Don't just sleepwalk through life. You need to decide you are going to live!

“All for God's Glory”

BY

 DR TONY EVANS

Scripture Reading: Psalm 136:1-9

First Corinthians 10:31 tells us that even our eating and drinking should be done to the glory of God.

God's glory is like a pair of colored glasses that tint everything you see. Whatever you do should be done for His glory. About everything, you should ask, "How will this glorify God?"

The whole earth gives us a picture of the glory of God. Nature preaches us a sermon on His glory. Everything should point to His glory.

Revelation 21:23 says that when we get to heaven, there will be no need of the sun or moon because the glory of the Lord will illuminate everything. There will be no night there, for the place will be consumed with the glory of God. His glory is so awesome that it will light up our heavenly home!

“The Rapture of the Church”

BY

ADRIAN ROGERS

“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16

I believe there will be seven years of terrible tribulation. It will be a time of tyranny and persecution. It will be a time when all nature will be out of joint and when demon spirits will infest the world. It will be a time when the Anti-Christ will rule and reign.

But before the tribulation comes, the Church is going to be raptured out. You might find it interesting to note that the word “rapture” is not found in the Bible, but the word “caught up” is, and that’s literally what the word “rapture” means. We will be “caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air” (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

Do your loved ones know what the rapture means? Why not ask them what they think this next week and open the door for a candid discussion about the future?

“TRUTH TWISTERS

BY

PASTOR BOB COY

September 13

Truth Twisters

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” —Matthew 7:15 (NKJV)

Jesus loves His Church so much that He will protect it from anything that has the potential to damage or destroy it. Included under this strong warning are false prophets and teachers. These men and women have the ability to infiltrate and infect the body of Christ and twist His truth. And when that goes unchecked, the Church loses its effectiveness in influencing this world.

When we look at the New Testament, we find warning after warning to be on guard against those who would deliberately twist God’s truth. In one instance, as Paul was leaving the church at Ephesus, the Spirit instructed him to warn them about “savage wolves” who were going to come in to devour God’s flock:

“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Acts 20:28-30 (NKJV)

But the warning doesn’t end there. In fact, the danger associated with false teachers is referenced in practically every epistle in the New Testament, and a large portion of 2 Peter and Jude are devoted to this issue. Clearly, this is a warning that God wants us to both hear and heed.

Again, Jesus loves His Church. He loves it enough to protect it from potential dangers. And when He warns us about their inevitable influence, we need to beware of false teachers. But in order to do so, we need to know what is true. We need to be men and women of the Word so we can identify when God’s truth is twisted.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)

Cross of Christ”

FROM

THE BAPTIST BIBLE HOUR

You, that were…alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight– Colossians 1:21-22

One word with which Paul frequently sums up the accomplishment of the cross is “reconciliation,” the bringing together of two parties that were previously at odds.

Here in Colossians Paul describes in detail why this reconciliation was necessary. First, you (and every other human being) were alienated from God, pitted against Him both in your mind and in your wicked actions.

There is not a person in the world who is by nature at peace with God. While we love to invent our own ideas and images of God, we resist His authority over us and His self-revelation to us, in the Bible. We would a thousand times rather live our own way than submit to His perfect and just and good way.

And for this reason, we are unacceptable in God’s sight. He is good and we are evil. He is right and we are wrong. He is holy and we are dirty. But Jesus, Paul announces, has reconciled us through His death on the cross.

No longer are we dirty and guilty and wrong in God’s sight, if we are Christ’s. Because He sees us in Christ, God now views us as holy, unblameable, and unreproveable!

And the clear implication is that, for those who are now in Christ, they have been reconciled to God in their minds and in their actions. No longer do they strive to rebel against His authority; they now strive to please and uphold God’s glory.

What about you? Are you in Christ? Have you been reconciled to God?

I am the LORD who sanctifies you.”

BY

DR ED YOUNG
Exodus 31:13

Sanctification is setting apart something or someone for the exclusive use of something else. The bride and groom vow that they are “forsaking all others.” Being sanctified by and for God is the commitment of your whole being for Him alone. Sanctification is to be made holy, and is both an event and a process. The moment you receive Christ, you are holy in God’s sight, because you have the righteousness of His spotless Son. But the process of sanctification happens in the material world, as you progressively place more and more of yourself under His complete control. This leads to practical living consistent with your heavenly character.

“Faith Is Creative!”

BY

ALISTAIR BEGG

Mark 2:4

Faith is full of creativity. The house was full, a crowd blocked the entry, but faith found a creative way of getting to the Lord and placing the paralytic before Him. If we cannot get sinners to Jesus by ordinary methods, we must use extraordinary ones. It seems, according to Luke 5:19, that roof tiles had to be removed. That would create dust and cause a measure of danger to those below; but where the case is very urgent, we must be prepared to run some risks and shock some people. Jesus was there to heal, and therefore roof or no roof, faith ventured all so that the poor paralytic might have his sins forgiven. We need more daring creative faith among us! Dear reader, let us seek it this morning for ourselves and for our fellow-workers and try today to perform some gallant act for the love of souls and the glory of the Lord.

The world is constantly creating and inventing; genius serves all the purposes of human desire: Can't faith invent too and by some creative means reach the people who are strangers to the Gospel? It was the presence of Jesus that stirred this victorious courage in the four friends of the paralytic. Is the Lord still present among us? Have we seen His face for ourselves this morning? Have we felt His healing power in our own souls? If so, then through the door or the window or the roof let us overcome every hindrance in bringing others to Jesus.

When faith and love are truly set on winning souls, we will learn to be creative in our approach. If hunger for bread can break through stone walls, surely hunger for souls is not to be hindered in its efforts. O Lord, make us quick to suggest and employ methods of reaching our friends and neighbors and of introducing them to You!

“Seeing and sharing the things of God”

BY

DR JACK GRAHAM

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints...

Ephesians 1:15-18

For 51 years, Bob Edens was blind. His world was full of constant darkness and for 5 decades he had never seen the light of day. But one day, a miraculous surgery was performed and for the very first time in his life, he saw.

It’s interesting some of the things that Bob Eden said. For example, he made observations like, “I would have never dreamed that yellow is so yellow." And he also made remarks like, “It’s amazing to see a jet plane flying across the sky leaving a vapor trail!”

But one of the most profound things Bob said was, “For those of you who’ve always seen, you'll never know how wonderful it is.” And really, that's the same idea that Paul is talking about in today's passage.

Thanks to the gift of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers, you can know the things of God because the eyes of your heart have been enlightened. But there are still people around you every day who are blind to that reality. So as you live your life, give others a glimpse of the things of God in your life and pray for Him to open their eyes!

YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN THE AMAZING GIFT OF BEING ABLE TO SEE THE THINGS OF GOD. SO LIVE YOUR LIFE TO SHARE THAT REALITY WITH THOSE WALKING IN DARKNESS.

“God's Clear Instructions “

BY

DR CHARLES F STANLEY

Joshua 6:1-5

Joshua needed guidance as he faced one of the most crucial moments of his life. Because the Lord had promised him success in conquering Jericho, he knew the outcome of the battle, but as the day of combat approached, he needed a specific strategy for victory. What he heard the Lord say must have made his jaw drop.

Can you imagine the soldiers' thoughts as they carried out this bizarre battle strategy? In confusing times like this, it's good to remember three requirements for benefiting from God's instructions. We need:

• Faith to believe the Lord

• Courage to obey Him

• Patience to wait for His timing.

When God gives us clear instruction through His Word or His Spirit within us, our response shows how much we trust Him. If we truly believe Him and His promises, precise and complete obedience will follow. His victory in any area of struggle is available only to those who act upon His directions.

Submitting to the Lord's timing is also an essential part of obedience. What would have happened if the army decided to bypass God's plans for the first six days and skip straight to the seventh day's march around Jericho? They would have missed the victory.

How often do we beg the Lord for guidance, yet hesitate to obey when He finally gives it? Living by faith can seem like a huge risk when His instructions make no sense or require a lengthy wait. But knowing His eternal perspective and unlimited power can strengthen our resolve to obey.
